Lousie and Aunt Elfriede discuss what happens when someone dies during a walk. Aunt Elfriede explains to Lousie how to learn the language of souls and how to feel their presence when they visit us. As an example, they mention Grandma Gerda and the chubby dachshund Pommes - both are dead, but they promptly come flying over when they realize they are being talked about.

At first, Lousie unfortunately feels nothing at all. They also cannot figure out where the secret world of souls is.

However, they learn how to send letters, love, kisses, light, and images into the secret world of the dead! And in the end, Lousie even feels a little wet kiss on her nose and is sure that it could only have come from Grandma Gerda.
