He is a morning grumbler and reads books about ancient Egypt or Tibetan books of the dead until late at night. Theo is 14 years old and lives in Paris. And when he's not sticking his head in books, he sits in front of the computer and tries to solve the riddle of the day, which is posed to him by his red-haired computer friend Pythia. In Theo's life there is still his Senegalese girlfriend Fatou, his Greek mother Melina, his French father Jérôme and his two sisters.
When his morning dizziness does not abate, Theo finds out after a doctor's appointment that he is seriously ill. A mysterious disease that at worst can end in death. The doctors are powerless. Without further ado, his aunt Marthe plans an unusual journey - a journey through the religions of the world. Theo sees Jerusalem, Cairo, Rome, Benares, Jakarta, Tokyo, Moscow, Istanbul, Dakar, Bahia, New York and Prague. Everywhere he and Aunt Marthe meet knowledgeable guides who explain religions from Judaism to shamanism, from the early church to Mormonism, and even let him participate in the most important festivals and rites. During one of these rites Theo learns that his twin sister died shortly after giving birth.
A death his parents never wanted to talk about. Against all hope Theo is cured in the end, but not by classical medicine, but by witch doctors.
"This is literature for all those who have not lost their childlike curiosity."
