Theogonie

Hesiod from Askra in Boeotia is the first poet known by name in the history of world literature, into which he entered with his two hexameter poems Works and Days and Theogony. As "a servant of the muses" he sings of the creation of the world from chaos to the seizure of power by Zeus, a story of battles with the Titans and other monsters, and finally the Olympic rule of Zeus himself. A treasure trove of classical myths of the gods, which were first recorded here in writing in a "people's book" that has been authoritative for centuries.
