Product details
That Storm worked on a "Sylt novella" in 1887 has long remained unknown. The draft of the novella was only discovered in 1969 in the Storm estate at the Schleswig-Holstein State Library in Kiel. This volume prints the "Sylt novella" on six pages, exactly as it has been preserved. The text is explained and commented upon. Among other things, it highlights the special significance of the Sylt legends for Storm and the "Sylt novella." The book documents Storm's vacation journey in the summer of 1887 from Hademarschen through Heide and Husum to Sylt, and his stay there among an illustrious summer society. Historical photos and images provide an impression of bathing life during the imperial era. Legends and stories from the island, which Storm had recounted to him and are included in this volume, inspired him to sketch a "Sylt novella" during his stay on Sylt, which is printed and explained here. Additionally, readers are informed about the locations in the novella, Storm's departure, and the significance of his stay in Sylt for the completion of the novella "The Rider on the White Horse.".
