Air, light, warmth, and fire are part of children's everyday reality. The air surrounds them; without air, they cannot live. Every day, they come into contact with light: daylight, sunlight, lamps, etc. Children experience warmth as natural warmth (from the sun) or through heating systems. They also know the warmth emitted by electrical devices, such as stoves or ovens. They are familiar with fire through matches, lighters, campfires, and much more. The topics of air, warmth, light, and fire are key focus areas in the new curriculum for grades 1 and 2 in science education. Children are encouraged to experience air, warmth, cold, light, and shadow through experiments. They should learn to recognize and appreciate light as an essential basis for life for humans, animals, and plants. The children are prompted to make their own observations and analyze them. They should identify and understand the properties of air, warmth, cold, light, and shadow through simple experiments. The children's hypotheses and experiences regarding these topics will be expanded, organized, and substantiated. Fundamental technical terms will be clarified and reinforced.
