With simple tasks at the word, sentence, and text levels, including listening examples, children learning German as a second language (DaZ) train their vocabulary around the theme of school. To keep DaZ learners motivated in language acquisition, a gradual buildup of vocabulary is important. With this material, children can practice independently and gradually approach the learning content. The vocabulary is initially introduced through a word bank. On the following task pages, students then practice the vocabulary—first at the word level, and later at the sentence and text levels. The children label pictures, complete sentences, and read short texts. There are corresponding listening examples for the word bank and reading texts, which can be accessed via QR codes. The selection of topics has a real-world connection, and the newly learned material can be immediately used in conversations with others. It covers basic terms, such as what is in the classroom, in the pencil case, and in the school bag, or what can be done and learned in school. This material includes 7 vocabulary chapters, a word bank with listening examples, as well as worksheets with appropriate tasks at the word, sentence, and text levels, explanations for the teacher, and solutions for self-checking.
