The six-volume edition is content-wise identical to the three-volume edition with a separate workbook. In the six-volume edition, every two volumes correspond to a level of the European Framework of Reference. This allows for use in course structures with "intermediate levels": for example, Themen aktuell 1 lessons 1-5 leads to the halfway point of level A1.
