Product details

The novella 'The Wind Rises', created between 1936 and 1939 and titled after a poem by Paul Valery, describes the love of the first-person narrator for his fiancée Setsuko, who is suffering from tuberculosis. Their brief liaison, overshadowed by death, is mostly spent away from society in a sanatorium in the mountains. Based on personal experiences, Tatsuo Hori sensitively portrays the couple's ambivalent relationship, which is reflected in the lyrical depiction of the changing environment through the four seasons. The autobiographically tinted novella gained international fame in 2013 through the award-winning anime adaptation 'The Wind Rises' by Hayao Miyazaki.
