The living

A brilliantly warm day in May. Seventeen-year-old Benoît is waiting for his sister, who is supposed to visit with her husband and their two children. The beautiful Louise, who became pregnant at sixteen, rarely returns to the dreary family home on the busy country road, but brother and sister still feel a deep connection to each other. When the two of them, along with the children, drive to the nearby gravel pit in the sleepy midday heat, and Benoît, in a moment of exuberance, puts the boys in the conveyor bucket and pulls the lever, their lives take a tragic turn in an instant.
