The little fox

The Little Fox is a folk tale about kindness, courage, and how humans and nature can live in harmony. The main character is the little fox, who is rescued by an elderly couple. Over time, the little fox and the old couple grow closer, and because the little fox wants to be a true grandchild to them, he embarks on a journey to ask the shaman Nisan to transform him into a little boy. However, at the end of his journey, he realizes that he doesn't need to be a human child to be a good grandson to his grandparents, as they have already been a family all along. Few people outside of China are familiar with the classic legends of Chinese minorities. Even within China, traditional Chinese narratives are often adapted to modern political guidelines. Publications like this one, which present the old stories in their original form, are therefore particularly valuable. China has a vast treasure of fairy tales, legends, and stories. The story "The Little Fox" offers a beautiful insight into the narrative world of the Evenki, an indigenous nomadic people of East Asia.
