Product details

The Landshut War of Succession from 1504 to 1505 laid the foundation for the entire Duchy of Bavaria, from which the later Kingdom of Bavaria emerged. Maximilian I. was able to establish himself as a military leader and as the head of the Empire, Georg von Frundsberg earned his first merits, and Götz von Berlichingen lost a hand. His initial companion and later opponent, Conz von Schottenstein, lived up to his reputation as a "hedge rider," while the "Bavarian Attila" devastated entire regions. As a result of the war, the briefly held military supremacy of the Electorate of the Palatinate was lost. The Landsknechte established themselves as a new type of warrior and demonstrated their dominant role on the battlefield. The sites of the Landshut War of Succession, also known as the "Bavarian Feud," extend from the Middle Rhine through Alsace and Lower Bavaria to Tyrol. This book was created in close collaboration with international reenactment groups. It also includes colored illustrations and some of the outstanding reconstruction drawings by Wolfgang Braun. Detailed depictions of weapons, including works by Stefan Roth, are included.
