The Influence Of Language Ecology And Attitudes Towards English

The book "The Influence of Language Ecology and Attitudes Towards English" by Patrick Kiliku examines the effects of language ecology and attitudes towards English on the performance of secondary school students in Nairobi and Mombasa. The study analyzes the extent to which the students' language environment and their attitudes towards the English language influence their performance in English, and whether these factors can explain the observed differences in performance between the two cities. The research is based on theories and models of second language learning and includes a sample of 90 students from six schools. The objectives of the study are to describe the language ecologies in both cities, to capture the students' attitudes towards English, and to analyze the relationship between these factors and the students' English performance. The collected data includes K.C.S.E. exam scores in English from the years 1991 to 1996.
