Product details

The Hungarian uprising of 1956 and the Prague Spring of 1968 are considered to have been extensively researched, but mainly from a national-historical and great-power perspective. In contrast, a systematic and multi-perspective study of the interrelationships between the two reform movements has yet to be undertaken. This study in the history of entanglements aims to close this gap: it detaches the reform attempts from their national and great power context and expands the previous perspective on the crises of socialism. Simultaneously comparative and transfer-analytical, it links the two prominent reform attempts and reveals transnational and socio-historical factors of influence. These provide new insights into how state socialist systems of rule could falter or remain relatively stable.
