For the young Jewish woman Lea, a year of catastrophes comes to an end because her father and her younger brother Samuel were killed in a pogrom. In order to secure her father's legacy and thus her survival and that of her siblings, Lea must henceforth pass herself off as Samuel. In her double role she is threatened by many dangers, not only from the Christian side, but also from her brothers in faith, who absolutely want to marry "Samuel".
