The German Academy for Language and Poetry. An A to Z

On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, members reflect on the history, present, and future tasks of their German Academy for Language and Poetry – a multi-voiced anniversary book.

On August 28, 1949, the founding of the German Academy for Language and Poetry is announced in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt. It begins its work in historically challenging times. The ideological struggles within the Academy mirror the societal conflicts in the western part of Germany. Since at least 1990, the Academy has not only opened up to the East but has also become more international. Currently, it has members from twenty-six countries.

In celebration of its 75th birthday, members take a look at the Academy, its history, its current situation, and its future tasks in Germany and Europe, presented in a varied A to Z format that reflects the diverse voices of its members, which is constitutive for the Academy.
