The Campo Santo Teutonico

This richly illustrated volume, filled with atmospherically dense photographs, vividly conveys the ambiance of the Campo Santo Teutonico. Several contributions introduce the history of this site, which has been frequented by German-speaking pilgrims since the establishment of pilgrimage colonies in the 8th century. They recount the story of the brotherhood dedicated to the sorrowful Mother of God of the Germans and Flemings, which has managed its cemetery and church through the ages for over 500 years, as well as their spiritual and communal life, the notable and lesser-known deceased in the cemetery, and the establishment of a priest college and the Roman Institute of the Görres Society, one of the oldest German scientific societies.
