The Battle for Weissenfels April 1945
German, Harald Rockstuhl, Jürgen Moeller, 2020Product details
Author: Jürgen Möller, hardcover, 200 pages with 170 photos and illustrations, maps. Book series: The End of the War in Central Germany 1945 | Vol. 13. About the book: In 2003, a small book titled "The City of Weissenfels in April 1945" was published in Weissenfels, which for the first time dealt with the events surrounding the capture of the city by the 69th US Infantry Division of the V US Corps of the 1st US Army. On April 12, 1945, tank units of the 9th US Armored Division of the V US Corps reached the Saale River between Merseburg and Weissenfels during their advance towards Leipzig. They encountered blown-up bridges and the resistance of the fire positions of the central German flak belt across the entire width. This was also the case in Weissenfels, where fighting occurred between the German defenders and the advancing American infantry from April 12 to 16, 1945. As a result of further research and eyewitness reports, the initially brief documentation steadily grew over the years and formed the basis for additional books in the current documentation series "The End of the War in Central Germany 1945." This volume aims to commemorate these beginnings on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of the war and simultaneously highlight the end of the war in the city of Weissenfels as an example of the senseless final battles of 1945.
