Few creatures fascinate humans as much as the big cats of Africa. Lions roam in packs through the tall grass of the savannah, leopards lurk in the dense underbrush, and cheetahs surprise their prey with lightning-fast sprints. But these predators have another side: when raising their young, they display remarkable playfulness and care. Fritz Pölking, one of Germany's most renowned nature photographers, has dedicated a significant part of his work to the big cats. For decades, he has traveled through the savannahs of eastern and southern Africa, accompanying and photographing individual animals for generations. His images impress with their close proximity and unusual intensity.
