Product details

The aim of this book is to fill the gap of insufficient technological reference in social and societal theory. To this end, conceptual proposals are made with reference to technology, media, symbol, and interaction theories, specifically drawing on the approaches of practice theory from Dewey, Mead, Joas, and Giddens. Examples are provided to demonstrate how these concepts of technologization, the socio-technical constellation, and the hybrid agency of humans, machines, and programs can prepare sociology for the analysis of interactions with software agents and search engines, as well as with robots and autonomous vehicles. Due to the synthesis of sociological knowledge of technology, it can also be read as an introduction to the sociology of technology for advanced students and those interested in other fields.
