But where does this fixation lead to a certain slim ideal of beauty and what is the need behind this whole mania of slimness? The work of the author Christin Niedballa deals with this as well as the question why dancing in particular can make an essential preventive contribution to making young girls resistant to media messages. First, she explains the developmental psychological perspective as well as the world in which young girls live. Building on this, she places media messages in context with the target group and investigates their role in the development of eating disorders. Furthermore, concepts for the avoidance of eating disorders are explained in order to make dance pedagogy a suitable instrument in social pedagogy.
