Few other Swiss authors are as combative, provocative, and simultaneously sensitive to language as Mariella Mehr. As a journalist, she played a significant role in the reappraisal of the Pro Juventute campaign "Children of the Road." As a Jenische, she fought for the rights of the traveling community, and as a reporter and writer, she primarily illuminated the fringes of society. Her texts address violence in all its forms and demonstrate a unique linguistic power. On the occasion of her 70th birthday, this volume offers, for the first time, an overview of Mariella Mehr's literary and journalistic work. The book, edited by Christa Baumberger and Nina Debrunner, includes previously unpublished short prose, journalistic texts, and poems by Mariella Mehr, as well as essays by selected authors, literary scholars, and critics.
