Typical Woman: Boundless curiosity drives the famous solo traveler and journalist Doris Wiedemann out into the world time and again. After traveling in the USA, around Australia, and across Africa, an invitation for coffee tempts the author to embark on a journey around half the globe. In 2001, Doris Wiedemann becomes the first woman to ride solo by motorcycle through Russia, all the way to Vladivostok. She is the first woman to enter South Korea with her own motorcycle and the first non-Korean to ride her motorcycle in North Korea. In Tokyo, she is greeted by two Japanese men she met years earlier during her trip to Africa. The journey home takes her again through Russia, where early signs of winter turn the ride over the Ural Mountains into a dangerous slide.
