Tabakexposition während der Schwangerschaft und Geburtsgewicht im Bezirk Arua

Tobacco consumption during pregnancy poses a risk to the health of the mother and her unborn child. It has been found that tobacco is a significant independent risk factor for low birth weight in newborns, which can lead to fetal death. Uganda is one of the African countries with a high prevalence of low birth weight newborns and is also experiencing a rising trend in tobacco consumption. However, there is limited knowledge about the relationship between the prevalence of low birth weight and tobacco exposure during pregnancy in Uganda. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between tobacco use during pregnancy and low birth weight in the Arua district, in order to gather information that can be utilized by the district health team and other stakeholders in developing appropriate strategies to prevent tobacco use among mothers during pregnancy.
