Nanotechnology is a key technology of the 21st century. Today, we encounter products in various areas of everyday life that are based on nanomaterials. Due to the large surface-to-volume ratio, nanocrystalline substances exhibit altered, novel properties compared to bulk materials, depending on their shape and size. The monograph demonstrates the versatility of the colloidal synthesis of the semiconductor lead sulfide. By introducing nucleation seeds or orienting the attachment of small particles, the cubic system can be directed towards various nanostructures. Organic molecules play synthetic key roles, from coordinating the monomers to controlling the overall reaction through the formation of self-organized monolayers. In addition to the synthesis of various 0D particle shapes, the synthesis of ultrathin 2D structures is described, which exhibit photosensitivity without post-synthetic treatment. Furthermore, core/shell particles and composites made from carbon nanotubes are presented as two heterosystems that open up new application possibilities by combining the properties of the starting materials.
