Product details

The Symposium is a significant philosophical work by Plato, written around 385-370 BC. In this text, a friendly competition of speeches is presented, delivered by a group of remarkable individuals during a banquet. Among the speakers are the philosopher Socrates, the general and politician Alcibiades, and the comic playwright Aristophanes. The speeches are dedicated to the praise of Eros, the god of love and desire. The Symposium is considered one of Plato's most formally perfect works and offers deeper insights than many commentators could ever imagine. It is often viewed as a work that not only reflects the author's thoughts but also raises timeless philosophical questions that transcend its era. Plato, who was not influenced by mystical forces, sought to grasp the truth through rational argumentation.
