Symbole und Rituale einer Metal Szene

Wild, brutal, drug-addicted, and followers of Satanism – these are just a few characteristics often attributed to fans of the metal scene. In this qualitative youth and group sociological study, a band whose music is categorized as death metal, as well as the scene that forms around this group and its music, are analyzed. The author connects the historical backgrounds of metal and its fans to the symbols and rituals present in the scene under investigation. Furthermore, the group analysis provides insight into the structure of the band, which separates during the course of the research, highlighting the relevance of certain symbols and rituals. Through this study, the author has succeeded in revealing a comprehensive picture of a youth culture that reflects the situation of adolescents in the transition from childhood to adulthood at the beginning of the 21st century.
