Swissness Revision: Effects and Questions
The first assessments from practice in various industries
The origin of products and services is highly relevant economic information. It can create trust and identity, guarantee quality, and generate demand. The Swissness Revision came into effect on January 1, 2017, reorganizing the relevant legal provisions in the second title of the Trademark Protection Act, the Coat of Arms Protection Act, and various implementing regulations, partially introducing a paradigm shift. The traditional approach focused on deception protection has been supplemented by a regulation that guides policy.
In this volume, experienced practitioners provide an initial assessment two years after the new regulation came into force. In industry-specific reports, they examine the effects and challenges of the new regulation. Topics covered include food (particularly wine and cheese), commercial and industrial products (watches, cosmetics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, machinery), as well as services. The work is complemented by special contributions on foreign origin indications in the Swiss market and country reports on selected neighboring countries.
