The 3rd edition 2020 of the Schützenentaler und -medaillen der Schweiz is distinguished by the fact that this book is now completely in English and has also been translated into Chinese. The bilingual work deals with both the history and the historical background of the Schützenentaler and Schützenmedaillen of Switzerland. More than 2,500 thalers and medals from the beginnings in the early 17th century up to the year 1960 are listed in detail, and most of them are illustrated. From engraved single pieces to medals with an edition of several thousand pieces, all pieces are supplemented with an indication of rarity as well as two valuations for the conditions "vz-unz / AU53" and "FDC / MS64". For the more common pieces, a market availability was also determined, which should enable the collector to estimate how common or how rare a corresponding medal really is today. Three different index categories, chronologically by year, alphabetically by locality, and also alphabetically by circumscription, enable the collector to efficiently identify practically any medal and to look it up in the catalogue. The current third edition has been revised, and many new items have been added. This increases the number of pages by another 68 pages to an impressive 632 pages. The large format of 23.5 x 28 cm allows for a user-friendly and clear two-column layout. The ratings have also been revised and adapted to current market conditions. This makes this book an indispensable reference work when it comes to the determination as well as the valuation of Schützenentalers and Schützenmedaillen of Switzerland. It now remains to be seen whether the Chinese translation will be able to enthuse the numismatic market in China even more for Swiss marksmen's talers and medals.
