Tuttlingen

The city of Tuttlingen and its surroundings have undergone rapid changes in the past century, reflected in the development of towns and villages, as well as in everyday life. In the 19th century, the majority of the population still relied on agriculture and livestock farming under challenging conditions. Thanks to the diligence and creative entrepreneurial spirit of the residents, the region has earned an excellent reputation as a business location since the late 19th century. The production of high-quality medical technology, musical instruments, and shoes established this reputation, later joined by other important sectors such as metal processing and electrical engineering. Over 160 previously mostly unpublished photographs document the period from the turn of the century to the 1970s. Following "Obere Donau. Land und Leute," Tuttlingen's district archivist Hans-Joachim Schuster has once again created a diverse and entertaining picture book. The photographic journey invites older generations to reminisce and familiarizes younger ones with the history of their homeland.
