Product details

The town of Schlüchtern, located in the Bergwinkel region between Spessart, Rhön, and Vogelsberg, has a long history. As early as around the year 800, Benedictine monks established a monastery here, making the settlement the spiritual and economic center of the region. For centuries, Schlüchtern was an important resting and transfer point on the trade route from Frankfurt to Leipzig and experienced significant economic growth, especially after being connected to the railway network. The renowned author and journalist Gustav Hildebrand documents the development of Schlüchtern from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century in this illustrated book, using around 160 images from the city archive and private collections. The viewer's gaze is directed not only at the changes in the town's landscape but also, and especially, at the everyday life of its citizens.
