Herdecke

The history of Herdecke, the town between Hengstey and Harkort lakes, dates back to the early Middle Ages. Thanks to the historic Bachviertel with its numerous half-timbered houses, the wooded Ardey heights, and the idyllic location by the Ruhr, Herdecke has managed to preserve its typical charm to this day. This illustrated book documents the development of the Westphalian town between 1865 and 1970. Over 200 mostly previously unpublished photographs provide diverse impressions of the work and daily life of the people of Herdecke, as well as private and social highlights. Local historians Michael Schenk and Hans-Alfred Voeste have previously made numerous publications on regional topics, including the historical illustrated book "Wetter an der Ruhr." For their latest publication, they have primarily drawn from private collections.
