Product details

The formerly independent town of Gerresheim was incorporated into Düsseldorf in 1909. The area gained international recognition particularly due to the glassworks that was once among the largest in the world and significantly influenced the lives of the local people until its closure in 2005. Gerresheim residents Thomas Boller and Peter Stegt have selected around 200 mostly unpublished historical images and postcards from private collections, inviting readers on an exciting journey through the history of the district. The fascinating photographs from the period between 1896 and the 1980s showcase the everyday life of Gerresheim residents, balancing hard work and leisure. The diverse collection of images takes the reader through streets, squares, and churches, as well as pubs, shops, and the numerous industrial businesses in the area, illustrating the transformation of the local landscape.
