Die Gemeinde Apen

Apen can look back on a century-long history. The community along the German Fehn route consists of nine villages, whose appearance and daily life have constantly changed over the epochs. This picture book offers over 200 impressive photographs from the period between 1900 and 1970 for its readers. The historical photographs provide the viewer with an intense impression of the everyday life of the people of Apen. This book tells the story of school life around the turn of the century, of working life in the fields or in workshops, as well as the leisure activities of Apen's residents. Willi Epkes was the community director of Apen for 18 years. As an tireless organizer, he is well-known to every citizen of the community. The images come from a private collection and are being made accessible to the public for the first time in this form.
