Der Darss

The Darss, once called the little quiet island land, with its picturesque villages of Prerow, Wieck, and Born, is the subject of this picture book. Until its discovery by vacationers more than 100 years ago, seafaring, shipbuilding, agriculture, and fishing were the main livelihoods of its inhabitants. Through the harsh life, a very special and lovable type of person developed on Germany's most beautiful peninsula between the sea and the Bodden. With more than 200 mostly unpublished historical photos, Doris and Jörg Pagel, along with Holger Becker, showcase the beauty of the region, the often very difficult everyday life of the Darss residents, as well as their joys and festivities. The three authors were born, raised, and still live on the Darss today. On this special journey into the past, viewers will recall seemingly bygone days and also discover new things.
