Product details

Bad Goisern is known for its durable Goiserer shoes, vibrant traditions, living customs, and strong-willed residents. As early as the Middle Ages, the burgeoning salt markets in the surrounding area brought prosperity. In the 19th century, the town benefited from the upswing that affected the entire Salzkammergut region. Thanks to the railway and the establishment of the Jodschwefelbad spa around 1880, Goisern transformed into a tourist destination. With over 200 mostly unpublished vivid photographs from public and private collections—especially from local historian Arthur Gollner—the authors document the tumultuous history of the town between 1880 and 1960. The impressive images depict the Goiserer in school, at work, or in clubs, and evoke memories of private and public festivals and celebrations.
