Surselva

The Surselva, also known as the "Grisons Highlands" or "Vorderrheintal," is still relatively unknown outside of Switzerland, aside from the famous winter sports resorts of Laax, Flims, and Disentis. However, the approximately 60 km long valley of the young Rhine between the Oberalp Pass and the capital of the canton of Graubünden, Chur, can hold its own against other Swiss Alpine regions. There is certainly no shortage of magnificent hiking destinations: from tranquil forest walks and comfortable high-altitude trails to spectacular canyon trips and challenging high mountain tours, everything is possible. Rolf Goetz guides hikers to the most beautiful spots in this landscape along 50 routes: to the enchanting Greina plateau, to the ice stream of the Vorab glacier, to the source of the Rhine at Tomasee, and to the bizarrely jagged Tschingelhörner peaks. The hiking area encompasses the entire Surselva.
