Natural coffee substitute, also known as substitute coffee, surrogate, or poor man's coffee, has many names and is a long-forgotten everyday item that involves roasting and brewing a drinkable coffee alternative. Much old knowledge has been lost in the course of the industrial production of our food. Some scoff at attempts to implement old recipes and techniques in our time as nostalgic fantasies. But it is much more than that: it is an expression of personal attitude towards oneself. The search for such old recipes also signifies a return to the lost skills of our ancestors, to Mother Earth, and to the homeland with all that it has to offer us.
