You will find a reading sample at "http://verlag.sandstein.de/reader/98-255_SurrealeSachlichkeit" "Surreal objectivity" does not exist - or does it? Based on the works of the National Gallery, which has a rich collection from the period between the two world wars, this volume takes a new look at the phenomenon of New Objectivity, one that has been sharpened by Surrealism. In fact, the two art movements, which emerged simultaneously in France and Germany, have more in common than one might initially suspect. Selected works of Surrealism are juxtaposed with the broad spectrum of New Objectivity and draw attention to the "psychic space", which surprisingly often also resonates in the latter without becoming explicit. They illuminate the surreal part of this movement, which often gives the works, which ostensibly represent a "retour à l'ordre", their actual depth dimension. Alongside the great figures such as Otto Dix, Christian Schad or Alexander Kanoldt, lesser-known artists of the New Objectivity are also represented, such as Paula Lauenstein, Fritz Burmann or Konrad Adolf Lattner, as well as Max Ernst, René Magritte and other surrealists.
