Under the title "Dreams," this volume brings together for the first time the dream reports and dream-theoretical reflections by Walter Benjamin that were published during his lifetime and preserved through his estate. This highlights a facet of his work that has received little attention so far, yet is of central importance to his writing and thinking. The first part, "Dream Records," includes a comprehensive and chronological collection of Benjamin's writings on his own dreams, incorporating unpublished manuscript material as well. The second part, "On Dream Consciousness: Awakening and Dream," contains his dream-theoretical reflections, ranging from brief aphorisms to more extensive discussions on dream literature and the historicity of dreams, as well as the political concept of the "dream collective" and its awakening.
