Small pleasures

Under the title "The Art of Idleness," a first collection of Hermann Hesse's previously unknown short prose was published in 1973, which is missing from the previous editions of his collected works and thus also from the Hesse complete edition of 1970. This anthology quickly sold out and has had to be reissued every year since then. It has sparked a surprisingly lasting interest in Hesse's unpublished short prose and has led us to publish nearly the entire "Feuilleton" legacy of Hermann Hesse with this additional volume. The collection "Small Joys" contains the most important yet unknown autobiographical reflections and memories. Like "The Art of Idleness," this continuation volume is also arranged chronologically, from the title reflection created in 1899 to the retrospective "Forty Years in Montagnola" (1960).
