Siddhartha

Siddhartha, first published in 1953 by Suhrkamp Verlag and now a cult book for generations, is the legend of a young person's self-liberation from family and social conventions to an independent life. It is a book about the realization that consciousness cannot be handed down through teaching, but can only be acquired through personal experience. In this text, Hesse seeks to fathom what is common to all denominations and all human forms of piety, what stands above all national differences, and what can be believed by every race and by every individual.
