Peter Handke's epic work, in which the muses are invoked not at the beginning but at the end, is both a narrative and an exploration of narrative itself, its creation and significance. In his search for his missing brother, Filip Kobal realizes that he cannot ultimately find his brother, but rather wants to discover him from the ambiguity of his fate, to tell his story. Peter Handke's "Repetition" is not a mere repetition, but a retrieval, a making of a new beginning; to repeat does not mean "Once upon a time," but "Start anew.".
