Many diagnostic myths are circulating about the modern world: that it is homogenized, individualized, and that isolated individuals indulge in consumption without restraint. The English anthropologist Daniel Miller has questioned these myths - more specifically, he interviewed the residents of a London street. And since people are generally reluctant to share details about their lives, he spoke with them about the items in their homes: about Simon's 15,000 vinyl records, which express all emotional nuances for him; about the laptop on which Malcolm stores countless letters and photos to maintain the memory culture of his Aboriginal ancestors; about the cheap figurines from the fast-food restaurant that Marina uses to show her children her love.
