While I tell stories, I do not concern myself with the truth, but with the possibilities of truth. As long as there are still stories, there are still possibilities. Therefore, the question posed to the storyteller about whether their story is true is based on two misconceptions. The first misconception: There is no story that does not contain truth, and there are, in principle, no inventions. Human imagination is limited by all that exists. In science, this is referred to as the laws of nature; I prefer not to name it for the storyteller. The second misconception: Language can never convey what actually is; it can only describe reality. Peter Bichsel's five lectures from 1982 are not actually lectures, but stories about lectures. They are refreshingly unpretentious and always extremely subtle—just like his stories.
