Crisis

This work in poetic form is much more than just a diary of a short period: it is a book of life. For it reveals with awareness and striking clarity an essential aspect of the poet, which has been present in him from the very beginning, but found no artistic expression before entering the clarity, decisiveness, and confessional drive of mature manhood. The meaning and purpose of his simple, often coarse, yet always pure and full verses is sincerity: they fulfill a necessity of his nature. And thus, they contribute to the discovery of new reality and, consequently, new beauty in life, in the service of which all of the poet's books stand. Oskar Loercke.
