Religious Education in England

An introduction to the historical and systematic developments of the practice and theory of state-responsible religious education in England, which is commonly referred to as 'Religious Education' today. The study aims to open a discussion with German religious education, which is strongly theologically influenced due to its legally anchored confessional orientation, a situation that has long since changed in England due to different historical developments. There, state-responsible religious education is a subject of pedagogy and religious studies and has been shaped for some time by interfaith approaches. The example of England, with its experience of multicultural reality shaped by colonialism and immigration, can provide insights for a pedagogically and politically interested readership in the German-speaking world, illustrating how interdenominational communication processes can be experienced as a valuable enrichment of cultural diversity.
