Product details

Most of the approaches developed and used in Revenue Management (RM) so far focus on so-called unimodal products. These are characterized by the fact that the type of service delivery is determined at the time of sale. However, in numerous industries that employ RM, there are provider-side flexibilities in service delivery that cannot be realized with unimodal products. This is the case, for example, in freight transport or with innovative products from low-cost carriers (LCCs). Anita Petrick examines so-called multimodal products in her work, which aim to leverage provider-side flexibilities. She identifies the novel requirements that arise for the technical implementation of a capacity management procedure. The author develops suitable model-based approaches for capacity management to realize such flexibilities. Additionally, she implements various control procedures and compares their performance in extensive experimental studies. In doing so, she particularly investigates how the use of provider-side flexibilities influences the outcomes of capacity management.
