Product details

In this second part of the project on dependency, valency, and sentence modeling, a practical text analysis is conducted, using insights from the first part as theoretical foundations. The application area of the descriptive system developed in Part I is early New High German syntax, which has hardly been examined from a dependency perspective so far. Against this background, the work focuses particularly on presenting various ways of capturing the dependency relationships of sentences using examples from early New High German language material and descriptively presenting concrete research results. The application of theoretical insights from modern linguistics to a historical language state is already known as a fundamental issue; however, the implementation of the project has also shown that such an approach positively affects the descriptive capability of a modern linguistic theory. This primarily allows for an expansion of the theory's scope; for dependency and valency, this has been expressed here both in the formulation of sentence models and in the presentation of specific individual questions.
