The distorted media portrayal of crime gives society a false idea of offenders, sentencing and the penal system. It therefore demands harsher punishments and strongly criticises the relaxation of enforcement because it is based on an understanding of punishment in which the punishment is focused. In addition, understanding the harsh punishments, the general deterrence is associated and maintained. Empirically, however, studies on criminal deterrence provide the exact opposite. This publication is intended to contribute to a better understanding of enforcement and rehabilitation measures. This is to be achieved through a socio-pedagogical and legal examination of the questions of what measures are available for the resocialisation of offenders, what the legal structures are and what effectiveness of the measures can be recorded. Within this framework, the design of a prison sentence in prison and the associated problems that employees of the judiciary and especially social workers have to deal with when implementing the goal of resocialisation should be made transparent.
