The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges to criminal proceedings. This study illustrates how these challenges can be addressed in the future, using the COVID-19 pandemic as a case study. It also presents the difficulties that arise in detention cases during a pandemic. In addition to an in-depth examination of existing regulations, the work develops and discusses proposals for new regulations. The study explores the use of technical possibilities, particularly audiovisual transmission. The author demonstrates the necessity of a pandemic-related code of criminal procedure. Furthermore, it investigates to what extent pandemic-related considerations can generally be applied in criminal proceedings for reasons of proportionality.
